An early and unusually shaped Chamberlains Worcester tureen and cover, probably from a dessert service and used for sweetened cream. 

Nicely marked under the cover with the pattern number 38 and "Chamberlains Worcester" in hand applied script.

This is a delightful dessert tureen with its very simple shape and decorated with Angouleme sprigs.  It would most probably have been supplied with an accompanying stand in the shape of a small saucer.

The shell handles are mentioned in a note from 1810 but tureens from 1810 or later actually rarely have the shell handles, and they are somewhat of a rarity. 

It is possible that this piece being of an early pattern number and simpler form dates from an earlier period, possibly around 1795.

The cover is wonderfully decorated by the gilded and pierced circular rim and gilded finial.

Very elegant and clean without the later exageration of form and gilding which swept though the Regency period.

Condition:
Very good antique condition.  A small hairline to the gallery on the cover shown in pictures 11 and 12 which has had restoration.  A few small chips to the edge of one of the shell handles picture 16. Some general wear to the gilding of the finial and rim.
