A large Mintons jug standing 27 cm tall, this bold Gothic Revival influenced design is called "Bollingbroke" and it was registered in 1876.

Minton had been working with Christopher Dresser and these jugs which are decorated with a transfer outline which is then over painted and gilded by hand, were decorated in several different designs.

Some claim they are designed by the great Victorian designer Christopher Dresser but it is likely that by this date Mintons ( Minton became MintonS in 1873 ) Dresser was no longer working directly with them.

However, many of his designs were in the public domain and Mintons may have designed a Dresser influenced form and used his designs to decorate them. Hopefully with his blessing. 

Bold and eye catching, this jug would make a wonderful statement piece.  

Filled with exotic flowers it would create an impact in any modern or classic interior for a private or business setting.  

Although large, it is suprisingly light due to a relatively thin wall thickness.  Many of these jugs did not survive intact, and although there are a few to be found I have not seen another of this pattern.  Quite a rare object.

Excellent.  Please study the pictures carefully.  Minor rubbing on some gilt, a fine 1 cm hairline at lip, mild age related staining on the inside of bowl.
