A really wonderful royal fluted and gold spotted coffee cup with its original saucer.

The fluting of the saucer and the gilded edges are just exquisite, showing a perfect balance of boldness and delicate refinement.

The handle shape on the cup and the way the cup and saucer meet and reflect each other heightens the enjoyment of this delicate shell like eighteenth century coffee cup and saucer.

Caughley made the royal fluted shape between 1788 and 1793 so we can date this cup within this five years.

As is often the case, the gilding is worn, but this would have been a used object and not merely for display. And being over two hundred years old, what conversations would it have heard while the aristocracy took coffee in Georgian England.
