A Rare Chinese Porcelain Dish in "Gilly Flower" Pattern with a Chantilly Mark
This small dish is indeed a rarity. It would appear that what we have here is a Chinese export porcelain replacement for a French Chantilly dish. Or alternatively one piece from entire service of porcelain copied from a Chantilly original complete with the Chantilly mark.
The porcelain its-self, the footrim and glaze, classify this beyond doubt as Chinese 18th century porcelain but with the mysterious anomoly of both an incised and underglazed blue Chantilly mark.
The underglazed blue decoration is fine quality and it has an ozier basket weave pattern moulded edge.
This pattern was very popular at the end of the 18th century. You can encounter it on Caughley, Derby and Worcester porcelain as well as Chantilly and other French manufacturers.
An interesting and rare little object.
