David Wilson Plate 1805

£120.00 inc. tax

An early nineteenth century moulded and hand-painted Wilson creamware plate, circa 1801-20.

It is impressed WILSON to the underside and has a beautifully painted rural scene to the centre.  It also has two gilded lines around the inner shoulder and rim.

This plate was part of the estate of the late Norman Walmsley and was brought to auction by Hansons Auctioneers Uk in May 2020.

The Wilson family worked producing ceramics for James Neale who was a well known London retailer in the late 18th century and who was renowned for the quality of his earthenware and porcelain.

Robert Wilson became the successor to "Neale & Wilson" and devoted himself mainly to the production of cream-coloured earthenware, plain or decorated in the Wedgwood manner.

When Robert Willson died in 1801 he was succeeded by his Son, David Wilson.

David continued the business from 1801.

In 1815 David took his own Son into the business when it became "Wilson & Son" until its eventual closing it in 1820 due to financial insolvency.
