Duesbury Derby Sugar Bowl pattern 14
£65.00 inc. tax
A Fabulous 18th century Derby porcelain sugar bowl decorated with pattern 14, one of the earliest Duesbury patterns.
The Duesbury Derby pattern book dates from 1782 so this pattern will have been used by Derby from around that year.
Made in a high quality fine porcelain with a slight greenish tinge when held to the light, and some moons or inclusions in the base only ever seen in 18th century porcelain.
This bowl would have been made during the period when William Billingsley was the head flower painter at the Derby factory.
The flowers painted in puce are reminiscent of a lithograph print, the different shades of puce being clearly differentiated.
Marked with the derby crown and batons and the number 16. This could be a decorators number but i can find no reference to decorator 16. Or it is possible that is it wrongly marked with the pattern number, the pattern numbers only becoming localised under the mark at a later date.
In fine antique condition, no cracks or chips, just some wear to the dentil gilding along the edge. An unusual size being larger than a tea bowl but smaller than a slop bowl measuring 82 mm tall and 114 mm diameter at the rim.
Wonderful Derby quality.
