Made by the Tito family pottery established by Pablo Tito and continued by his sons Paco and Juan.  

Pablo established the style and technique through his exploration of the techniques and aesthetic of the Morrish Arab potters.  

The vase is stamped UBEDA which is the name of the town where the pottery is located, and which is a famous area in Spain for pottery.

This is a large vase with organic irregular handles and quite a nice area of sgraffito decoration around the base.  It most probably dates from the  1970s.

The vase is thrown in a red earthenware clay and then covered in a white slip. The slip is then cut back ‘sgraffito’ to reveal the darker clay and create the decorative pattern. The whole vase has then been covered in a thin copper green glaze.

A lovely piece with strong character which calls for the right setting in which to shine.
