Miniature Bow Tea Bowl
A rare Bow miniature tea bowl. Miniature wares have been made by all the English porcelain factories from their very beginning; as novelty toys and as play things for the children of the wealthy.
Miniatures are a smaller group within what is already a rare group of early English porcelain so they are generally considered rarities.
This little bowl is potted in a very fine translucent porcelain.
The Bow factory closed in 1774 so this will be a relatively early piece of porcelain.
A low foot opening to quite a wide everted rim. Decorated in underglaze cobalt blue with a Chinese type scene. A house between hills and rocks, a tree, a boat on the water. A single blue line around the inside of the rim.
The rim has a small chip on the outside, and the foot also a small chip in line with the one on the rim. Both have been filled to strengthen the bowl protect from further damage, but intentionally left visble.
A very collectable little item.
