Minton and Hollins Teapot trivet
£40.00 inc. tax
Minton and Hollins trivet for a teapot made around 1890
Minton first establised the workshops of MINTON AND HOLLINS in 1845 to specialise in decorative tiles and architectural glazed ceramics.
They innovated new techniques using in-layed coloured clays and other new processes.
During this period, large commissions using glazed bricks and other ormnamental architectural ceramics became common, and Minton and Hollins supplied much of the fired and glazed ceramics for these new building projects including tiles for the Houses of Parliament.
Minton continued with their tableware and decorative ceramics in tandem to the Minton and Hollins operation.
This trivet would have been produced to sit in the centre of a Victorian table and protect the table from the heat of the teapot.
A similar product in the same colour and with similar style of decoration was made to commemorate the 60th Jubilee of Queen Victoria in 1897.
This trivet I believe was made in the 1890's and is a relief moulded pattern depicting a rose, convulvulus and a passion flower overlayed with a turquoise glaze.
The different depths of blue are produced by the different depths of the glaze over what was a relief moulded surface.
