Rare James Neale Acanthus Leaf moulded Cup and Saucer
£220.00 inc. tax
James Neale was a dealer in ceramics in London operating at the end of the 18th century. He had various interests and bought a pottery in Staffordshire where good quality pottery was made and sold in his London outlet.
He also produced and sold fine porcelain but only for a small period somewhere around 1785-1790 it would seem and so examples of his porcelain are rare.
Geoffrey Godden writes with great enthusiasm about Neale's porcelain and considered it some of the finest made in the period.
With very clean and precise detailing, a characteristically thin glaze and crisp moulding, this cup and saucer carries with it all the qualities which Godden was himself so enthusiasic.
In excellent antique condition with no chips are cracks, just wear to the gilding on the cup rim, the saucer remaining in excellent condition considering it is now in the region of 240 years old.
