The queen of france staffordshire figure c.1860
Here we have a colourful staffordshire flat back figure of Empress Eugénie (1826-1920) who was the consort of Napoleon III, Emperor of France.
This figurine is intended to be one of a pair, the other being of Napoleon himself. The earliest example I could find was made in 1854, I think this one was made around 1860.
Depicted on Horseback a full length Staffordshire figure of the Empress Eugenie on a horse facing left in a round hat with a veil hanging to her left.
The deep blue dress appears to be underglaze cobalt, the other colours being on-glaze enamels in bright yellow, puce, orange, green, black, and pink.
Nicely painted with some detailing on the horse blanket, she looks regal and aloof.
