When I first came across this cup and saucer I found it very suprising to discover that it was made over two hundred years ago, possibly 1805-15.

The form and lines are so minimal it is timeless, very much Terrance Conran, and it just shows how Wedgwood was not merely a technical genius, but really did take risks with design, from the most complex forms and decoration to the simplest and most timeless elegance.

This surely has to be in the museum of "design classics" and is such an interesting piece to have in any collection.

Finely potted, the handle very fine and the interior a subtle blue tint which gives the whole cup an unexpected refinement.

Unfussy ornamentation of the gilt band and a dash of gilding on the handle.  But the band is deep and assertive and not in anyway an after thought but an integral part of the design, balancing the form and accentuating the line.

This is a timeless design classic and quite a rare piece in great condition.
