Worcester Coffee Cup c.1770
Here we have a Worcester porcelain coffee cup with a strap handle and fine polychrome floral decoration probably made circa 1770.
This high quality of floral painting is typical of the work of the Worcester factory in this period.
Inside the rim and on the handle is finely applied iron red decoration.
The floral decoration is compact, very detailed and in excellent condition, with a wide range of colours and sprays of a variety of flowers.
This is a coffee cup. At this period it was still usual to have a coffee cup with a handle and a tea bowl, both sharing one saucer, as its was never the case that coffee and tea would be being drunk at the same time, so only one saucer would have been needed.
